Late Victorian Era Photograph of Mother and Child - Vintage 1880s-1890s Women's Fashion Cabinet Card

This photo of a Victorian Mother and Child gives some insight into the changing fashion and shifting roles of women in the household. The mother's cinched waist, thin sleeves, and starched collar and cuffs reflect the more modern woman's shift away from earlier Victorian bustles, fringe, and patterns. Meanwhile, the child is in a christening gown abundant with ruffles and trim, which stands in stark contrast to the newly simplified women's wear.
