This cabinet card photo of a lively young baby comes from the Harrington Portrait Co. in Cleveland, OH in the 1890s, when quick-exposure photography allowed for live baby photos.
The little girl, likely named Pearl as evidenced by the inscription on the back of the card, was positioned on a bale of hay or shag rug. This was a common prop technique typically used to hide the mother holding up the baby. Pearl had lovely blue eyes visible even through the sepia-toned photography.
The beveled edges of this cabinet card are embossed lightly with gold, a display format most popular during the 1890s. As evidenced by glue marks on the back, this photo was once glued onto a larger display piece.
Condition: Mild wear on the corners due to age, wear on corners, glue residue, and inscription "Pearl" on back. Mild staining on the back due to age.
Height: 6.5 inches
Width: 4.25 inches
