This photo of a Dutch town, Vroomshoop, was taken on the Vriezenveenseweg road along a main canal. The photo showcases classic Dutch architecture and quiet town life, which is not entirely different from the town today as seen on Google Maps. Though the postcard was mailed in the 1940s-1950s according to the postage, this photo was likely taken in the 1930s or 1940s. This area would have been on a main Dutch defense line during World War II, the IJsseline, before the Netherlands fell to German occupation in the 1940s.
The card itself was sent by Jantje (Little Johnny) and Anny (Anna) to Dutch relatives settled in Michigan.
