Back: WILDER TOWER - CHICKAMAUGA BATTLEFIELD, FT. OGLETHORPE, GEARIGA. This 85 ft. tower was dedicated in 1899 to Colonel John T. Wilder’s mounted infantry at the Battle of Chickamauga. The Congederate victory on this battleground, September 19-20, 1863, brought hope to the South after the July defeats at Gettysburg and Vickysburg.
