On back: The Mackinac Bridge State of Michigan The world’s largest suspension bridge is seen here from the deck of one of the Michigan State Ferries, which it replaces in spanning the Straits of Mackinac between the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan. The bridge is five miles long, and has four lanes of traffic. It was designed by Dr. D. B. Steinman, and was opened for traffic in the fall of 1957.
