On back: This great Memorial to George Washington, the Mason, is situated on Shooters Hill, in the western part of Alexandria, Va., on the highway between the City of the Washington and Mount Vernon, his old home. The imposing Memorial, 333 feet high, overlooks the City of Washington to the north and its foot lies Alexandria, which city he helped to plan. All the surrounding country is rich in historical association. The unusual architectural features and the remarkable terraced approaches presents. striking appearance. It is modeled after the ancient towers which were used as beacons to guide mariners into harbors, as exemplified in the beacon at Rhodes. The Memorial houses a priceless collection of memorabilia of Washington, including many articles closely connected with his career in the Masonic order. The cost of the Memorial was $4,000,000. It is being built by the George Washington Masonic National Memorial Association.
