Stirling Castle
Stirling Castle is an interesting fortress of considerable antiquity, standing on a precipitous crag at the north-west end of the town. Its construction was carried out at various dates from the twelfth century. The castle made a most stubborn defense against the forces of Edward I, and has always taken a prominent place in Scottish history. It was a royal residence of the Stuarts and was the scene of the murder of William, Earl of Douglas, by King James.
