This beautiful photo of a young woman gazing at white roses is a real photo postcard from Latvia, though it was unmailed and likely used as a keepsake. She looks somberly, or pensively, down at the bouquet, which sits at the very center of the postcard. The light shines from above and the bottom half of the postcard is dark, giving the woman a heavenly glow.
The back inscription reads Piemiņai no Karinas, which means "In memory of Karina" in Latvian, and we can infer that the young woman on the front may have passed and the postcard was kept as a memory of her.
This postcard is dated 1937.g. 5 augustā, meaning it was mailed in the brief period after Latvian Independence (1920) and before Soviet and Nazi occupation (1940).
Condition: Bending on bottom left and top right corners, adhesive residue on back where postage or price once was, slight foxing/discoloration. Border design slightly worn in places.
Height: 5 9/16"
Width: 3 3/8"
