Early 20th Century Farm Family with 6 Children in Photo - American Farm Life Photography

This idyllic scene of a well-dressed family in their expansive yard gives us a window into what it was like to live on an Michigan farm in the early 1900s. The father may have been a second generation landowner, he is young and prosperous looking. The mother certainly has her hands full  with those 6 adorable kids! She appears to be in her early 30s, meaning she had been pregnant every other year since 18 years of age. The children are beautifully dressed in the latest fashions. they are clean and very healthy looking. 

The lower half of Michigan produced fruits and vegetables enjoying the convenience of Lake Michigan to get their truck garden products to Chicago daily, or the 20 different railways leaving Michigan helped reach markets in all the large mid western Cities.  Agricultural families were very fortunate at this time in Michigan.
