Real Taxidermied Bird on a Fashionable Hat, 1890s - Unique Carte de Visite - 1890s Fashion

This fashionable lady is dressed to the nines in turn-of-the-century hat! Well-to-do ladies in the 1890s wore elaborate, sculptural hats -- many of which featured actual bird feathers or the whole bird! Look closely, you can see this lady has adorned her hat with a taxidermied bird, likely a dove! Despite the macabre nature of this fad, ladies' fashion at this time conveyed feminine values through light, delicate, and often elaborate fashion as seen in the hat and sleeves in this photo.  Great photo to give a hat designer.
