This beautiful woman gazes off into the distance in a beautiful Late Victorian photo portrait, displaying her impeccable sense of fashion! Her hair is pulled back, with elaborate curls around her face as was most popular at the time for modest, simple ladies. Her dress reflects the somber, high-collared fashion of Victorian style. However, the dress's billowing sleeves and lovely lace trimmings reflect the fashion dictum of the mid-1890s: "sleeves should go out and not up"! This may have been a "coming out" photo the parents would provide to local social columns to find the perfect male suitor.
The card reads "from Hamilton's" in an artistic, gold imprint at the bottom. D. H. Hamilton was a well-known photographer in the Midwest in the later half of the 1800s, and it is clear that many at the time knew the who, what, and where of "Hamilton's", as the studio felt no need to advertise an address or first initial!
Height: 6 1/2"
Width: 4 1/4"
Condition: Corner wearing and foxing of card mount front and back. Mild staining and foxing on photo.
