This animated child, who looks to be close to a year old, just had her photo taken in her christening gown, around the turn of the 20th century, when black-and-white printing technologies could capture incredible detail in photos. The baby is propped up on a wicker chair that sits atop yet another wicker chair. The baby grips her wicker throne with chubby hands, ready to spring out of the chair towards her mother -- or maybe even the camera!
This little one likely just christened, and her family decided to commemorate it with a photo, complete with all the trimmings -- embossed frame, patterned card, and the wicker contraption as a prop!
This card is a unique size indicative of early 20th century developments in photography, at just over 8 inches tall and 6 inches wide. The photograph, too, is larger than normal cabinet cards, meaning the family likely paid more for a custom photo.
Height: 8 1/4" card, 5 3/8" photo
Width: 6 1/8" card, 3 7/8" photo
Condition: Mild discoloration and wearing of corners, former adhesive residue on back, 2.00 in the bottom corner.
