This darling young girl sits patiently for a cabinet card photo by one of New York's most prestigious photographers in the 1870s. Her dress is luxurious and expensive, and she may have been related or close to photographer G Frank E Pearsall to get a sitting at one of his most prestigious studios, open for only 3 years!
Her curly hair is well-portrayed in the detailed photo, and the side-swept bangs make for an angelic, face-framing look. Her frilly white dress is secured around the waist with a large ribbon-like belt, which may have concealed the fact that this could have been two separate clothing pieces, common at the time for young children. A handwritten description on the back of the photo reads "Miss Elizabeth B. Condil, 3 yrs old May 19/71"
G. Frank E. Pearsall, called "one of the most successful young photographers" in a contemporaneous history of photography. Pearsall invented a process whereby the head of his subject ended up in the exact same spot in each of his photos for uniform centering of his subjects.
Height: 6 1/2"
Width: 4 1/4"
