This elderly woman had her portrait taken in the 1870s in Paw Paw, Michigan. She was likely born around the beginning of the 19th century before Michigan was even a state in the U.S. She wears a striking lace bowtie collar over her plain dress, and her thin wire-rimmed glasses match her no-nonsense personality.
