This young man is as fashionable as can be in this oval photo! Reminiscent of the earlier tintype or daguerreotype ovals, this boy brings a modern Victorian air to the traditional oval shape with his fashionable clothing and hairstyle, now in black and white!

His collar is a cross between the Victorian stiff, upright collars and the later turned-down geometric collars. His silk cravat has a small stickpin to affix it to his outfit, which was likely uncomfortable for a restless young man. The double-breasted coat, too, was typical of male formal wear of the era, and this may have been his first  "Grownup" outfit. The Photo may have been taken as he finished at a Boy's School. Young boys from wealthy families usually were sent to boarding schools to prepare them for final degrees in law, medicine or business.

Height: 4 3/8"
Width: 3 1/8"

Condition: Small crazing on bottom left, cracks and tears in small border card, including 1/4" indent on right side. Writing on back from previous sale.
