Mackinac Straits Bridge at Twilight
Hundreds of lights glow on one of man’s great engineering achievements linking lower Michigan with the Upper Peninsula. Some of the many interesting statistics compiled on the Bridge show that the total length of the Bridge is five miles. The length of the Main Span (between main lowers) is 3,800 ft. The main towers rise 552 ft above water, the roadway is 199 ft. above water, and the maximum depth of water at the mid span is 295ft. The bridge was opened to traffic in November 1957. - Mackinac Bridge Authority Photo by HD Ellies
