On back: Historic Ft. Michilimackinac Mackinaw City, Mich. Built in 1715 by the French as a trading post, the British took it over after France surrendered its North American empire to the English in 1761. Fearing the fort could not be defended against possible American raids, a new fort was built on Mackinac Island in 1779. Restoration was begun in 1959.
Condition: great, minor aging
Mailed: Postmark on August 1964 from Bear Lake, Michigan, with a purple four-cent Lincoln stamp
