Front: A photo of Jones E. Mathew’s Bridge in Jacksonville, Florida
Back: Sightseers gather on the observation deck of the Havana Special as it crosses Long Key Viaduct in 1912. The boat-train ran express from New York to Miami and then as a Local to Key West. At first travelers had to change to a Key West-Havana passenger steamer. Later three large steel ferries took the Pullman cars all the way to Cuba. The Havana Special boomed during prohibition but was cut to one trip a day in the '30's. Photo from The Railroad that Died at Sea: The Florida East Coast's Key West Extension, by Pat Parks.
