On back: The foundation of this Roman Catholic Cathedral, was laid about 1837, by Bishop Portier, first Bishop of Mobile, but was not completed until 1850. It is of Renaissance Architecture, modeled after the famous Magdalen Church of Paris. Seating capacity 800. In its crypt lie the remains o five Bishops. The Centennial of the laying of the foundation stone was celebrated January 25th, 1938
