Sacred Garden, San Juan Capistrano, California - 1930s Nature Postcard

This linen postcard was printed in 1939 with a hand-colored view of the entrance to the San Juan Capistrano gardens. The Mission Gardens are still open today. 

The Sacred Garden and fountain is situated between the great Stone Church and the original rectory. The Campanario was built in 1813 to accommodate the bells for safe keeping, and have remained there ever since. The large bells were cast in Spain in 1796 and the smaller bells in 1804, just before the church was completed.
