This photo was taken in January of 1957 as the Manitou and Pikes Peak Railway Train passed by on its trek up the Rocky Mountains. The pictured train car has a classic 50s look with a Cadillac V8 engine and streamline car, and was likely the railroad's classic No. 7 car.
Founded in 1889 to combat the grueling trip through the Colorado Rockies to Pikes Peak, this railroad began with steam service and a toothed cog-and-rack system to push tourists up the 16% incline of the mountain. In the 1950s, the railroad introduced upgraded train cars with a glass roof and rear engine car, switching from steam to gasoline and diesel engines.
Condition: Slightly curved due to improper storage. Black mark on back. Looks like the photo may have been developed in a private developing room.
