This dapper young man just had his hair freshly cut and has a fresh new collar (men's collars were usually replaceable, starched paper, buttoned on to the shirt.)for this photo. Likely taken for an 1890s graduation from a professional degree program, this man tried to look his best with a rather fancy outfit which was not hard to find in the era's manufacturing boom. The silk scarf (tie) and detachable collar were tucked into a nice three-piece suit. The man is posed in front of a simple background to emphasize his appearance.
The photograph is a unique size -- it is smaller than the 5 1/4" x 8" boudoir photo, but it is larger than the 4 1/4" x 6 1/2" cabinet card. This photo was likely not printed by a leading supplier or was perhaps cut by the photographer or owner.
Height: 7"
