This black-and-white photo features a rather somber couple, likely in their late 50s, all dressed up for the photo. Perhaps they wanted a photo to celebrate a successful marriage once the children were grown up.. The man has creases on his eyes from jolly laughter, and the lady has the knowing look of a no-nonsense matriarch. Her exquisite silk dress is simple but elegant, and it likely cost a pretty penny in her time. What a great gift for a couple with just as much personality as these two, perhaps for an anniversary!

This photo was taken at Baker's Studio in Allegan, Michigan by H. B. Baker or his wife, who took over the photography studio in 1910.
