This lovely photo of violinist Marie Hall shows off her curls and her musical prowess. The hand tinted photo is wonderful for the time period. Her hair draws the eye against the light background, and the natural curls form well into the bouffant-styled up-do popular in the Edwardian era. Originally in black-and-white, this photo features gentle pastel colors that enhance her outfit and her violin.
This photo was taken in the "golden age" of hand-colored photography in the West, in the first half of the 20th century. The back indicates that this photo was printed and colored in London by Rotary Photograph, a company active between 1898 and 1916.
